Dee Viney initiated this project with the purpose of getting our students involved with a new community radio station in PMB. A relationship was established whereby the students attended weekly workshops on the practical aspects of running a community radio station. Students also create and provide stories and other material for the station content in a variety of slots from sport, cultural, news, developing the community et cetera. When the station goes live this month, students from UKZN and other institutions will host the student slot, providing a range of information from study hints, interviews with psychologists, politicians, municipal managers et cetera. This could be a very beneficial exercise in building good relations with relevant people and media in the local community, as well as valuable experience for the students.
