About
Media and Cultural studies (MECS) department at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, recently received funding from the National Film and Video foundation’s presidential stimulus fund to upskill and train young emerging filmmakers within Durban. The Fukamisa Intsha Film Training project was established at the Media and Cultural Studies department and it has a three-month-long program (May-July 2021). We host a number of masterclasses designed to equip young people with skills needed to function effectively in a fast-paced film industry through the program. Furthermore, the project aids in the creation of jobs for Durban based young and experienced filmmakers by employing them as masterclass facilitators. The program’s masterclasses covered ten areas of specialization needed in the three stages of the value chain ( pre-production, production and postproduction) i.e. producing, screenwriting, directing, cinematography and lighting, editing, makeup, set design, wardrobe and sound. Apart from skills transference, the project aims to see three short films created by the group of trainees in this program which will premier end of August 2021.
